The goal of the Brush "Main Street" Project is to spearhead the revitalization of downtown Brush!

Why should I be a "Main Street" Investor?

  • Brush downtown revitalization ("Main Street" Project) is an Enterprise Zone Designation which allows investors to use 25% of their donation as a state income tax credit and is fully deductible as an expense on federal income tax.
  • Store front design assistance by "Main Street" architect is available.
  • $5,000 matching grants for façade improvements, 1 completed in 2014.
  • Streetscape plan for downtown was developed by a landscape architect with local input.
  • Historical survey was completed of 51 buildings that are over 50 years old. Grants from Historical Society may be available for property owners.
  • A local historical designation ordinance and review board established. Properties must be designated a historical site to receive some grants. This was a key factor in the restoration of 218 Clayton Street.
  • Chamber "Main Street" office is now more accessible and visible in a restored building.
  • "Main Street" investors get a free listing on website and in Directory.
  • Spirit of Brush Awards to promote business and residential improvement projects.
  • Chamber "Main Street" partners with City to form a downtown improvements steering committee to spearhead streetscape, drainage and street improvements.
  • Engineering plan was completed in early 2009 – Streetscape on 300 and 400 blocks of Edison was completed in 2010.
  • Streetscape of 100 block of Clayton was completed in 2011.
  • Streetscape and drainage problem of 200 and 300 blocks of Clayton were completed in 2012. Storm water drainage completed to additional pond in 2015.
  • Brush area comprehensive business marketing study is available at Chamber "Main Street" office.
  • Over $30,000 of Brush Bucks sold in 2014 ($ spent locally turn over 5-7 times before leaving community)

  • Retail Fair for Brush businesses including jobs available. Emphasize small business opportunities.
  • "Where in Brush Can I Buy?/Shop Brush 1st"
  • Update Market Study
  • Support and partner in developing a sustainability plan for Sands Theatre
  • Niche community plan
  • Partner in the development of a Brush way finding signage plan
  • Support and help implement an advisability study for Central School
